Mouse DPI Test

Estimate mouse DPI from a measured travel distance. The calculation stays in your browser and never writes to the device.

LIVE MOUSE DIAGNOSTICS

Measure a straight swipe

Pixels divided by inches

Mark a real-world distance first

Use a ruler on the mousepad, enter that length, then click Start and move the mouse that far in one direction.

Click Start swipe, then move the mouse the measured distance without lifting it. Click Stop when you reach the mark.

This mouse DPI test estimates counts per inch from CSS pixels. Operating-system pointer acceleration, display scaling and zoom can shift the result. Compare sessions on the same computer.

WHAT IT CHECKS

Travel distance, not sensor firmware

A mouse DPI test answers a practical question: how many on-screen pixels appear when the mouse moves a known physical distance. The page does not read the sensor EEPROM or change Windows pointer speed.

  • Measured swipe length in inches
  • CSS-pixel travel during the swipe
  • Estimated DPI from pixels ÷ inches
HOW TO GET A CLEAN RESULT

Keep the swipe honest

Mark 4 inches on a mousepad, disable extra pointer acceleration if you can, and keep browser zoom at 100%. Repeat the swipe two or three times and look at the cluster, not one outlier.

  • Use a ruler or a printed inch mark.
  • Move in a straight line; do not lift the mouse.
  • Keep the same Windows pointer speed between comparisons.
  • Do not treat the estimate as a factory DPI rating.
Privacy by design: pointer movement is processed locally. No mouse identifier is uploaded, and closing the tab ends the session.
FAQ

Questions about this test

How does a mouse DPI test work in a browser?+

You enter the physical distance you moved the mouse, then move it that far in a straight line. The page counts CSS pixels traveled and estimates DPI as pixels divided by inches.

Is this as accurate as a manufacturer DPI rating?+

No. Windows pointer speed, browser zoom, display scaling and a crooked swipe all change the estimate. Treat the number as a comparison tool for the same machine, not a factory specification.

What is a good mouse DPI for games?+

There is no universal answer. Many desktop players keep a lower DPI and a larger mousepad, while others raise DPI for limited desk space. Use this mouse DPI test to confirm the setting you already chose.

Does this test mouse polling rate?+

No. This page estimates DPI from travel distance. Controller polling belongs on the existing gamepad polling rate test, and a dedicated mouse polling page is not part of this toolkit.
